II. ABOUT THE COURSE:

In today’s rapidly evolving digital and technological landscape, Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) have become central to the creation, distribution, and protection of content across various platforms. This short-term certification course is designed to equip legal professionals and aspiring practitioners with a practical understanding of IPR as it applies to contemporary media formats—ranging from film and television to podcasts and artificial intelligence. The course begins with a foundational overview of IPR, laying the groundwork for understanding copyright, moral rights, licensing, and the role of ownership in creative industries. Participants will then explore the legal intricacies of licensing agreements in the digital streaming economy, including Video-on-Demand (VoD) content deals and music synchronisation rights in film production. The course also delves into contributor agreements in television and podcasting, focusing on the contractual and ethical obligations owed to presenters and creative collaborators.

In recognition of emerging challenges, the final module addresses data protection, privacy, and ethical considerations in the context of artificial intelligence. As AI increasingly intersects with content creation and personal data, understanding frameworks such as GDPR and the legal implication of algorithmic bias becomes crucial. By combining legal theory with practical application, this course aims to prepare participants to navigate complex IPR scenarios in media and technology. Whether negotiating licensing terms, safeguarding creative contributions, or addressing the ethical use of AI, this program offers the legal tools and insight necessary for informed, future-ready legal practice.
